Thoughts from the deck....

I've been sitting on the cabin deck watching a woodpecker hard at work on a tree limb over my head.  The leaves are starting to bud and squirrels are running from tree to tree playing.  I've been up since before dawn contemplating my life... our life together... answering texts from Ashley who is at her first drama competition about 4 hours south of here and absolutely, positively missing my husband to the point that I'm not really having the relaxing do nothing weekend I had planned when I took off with the girls and left him home alone with the little man.  It's amazing after 13 years that I would still rather snuggle with him on Saturday morning that do anything else in the world.  I've been gone less than 24 hours and all I've thought about are all the things I want to say to him; and how much I've missed him.  Can't wait to get back home tomorrow!

You

You are the glue the holds our family together. The calm in the center of all the storms of my life. The voice of reason when I've gone over the edge. The love that centers me and keeps me focused. The force that pushes me to be better than I think I can be. The anchor that keeps me where I need to be. You are a compass guiding me, letting me stand on my own but keeping me moving in the direction I need to go. You are a magnet always tugging me closer, keeping me within arms reach, and making me remember that you are my other half and my life would not be complete without you. Our life is a rollercoaster, but you are my safety bar. No matter how steep the hill is, I know your arms are strong enough to keep me safe........ I love you always.....

Putting on the Ritz....

I just got back from the most awesome weekend. My aunt and I stayed at The Raphael in Kansas City. The plaza lights were still on and the view from our room with the fog freezing to the trees was so beautiful. We had dinner at the Melting Pot and High Tea at the Oak Room. So, so much fun. It was exactly what we needed to start the new year off right.

Now that's what I call progress......

New Year's Cleaning

I know, I know. You think I should be a contestant on that messy house show. This is my New Year's resolution. I'm going to organize and declutter this chaos. Yesterday was the beginning. I see you cringing, but the bottom shelves, refigerator and pantry are already done. My goal is to finish up this mess tonight. Let's see if I manage it.
Fly Lady is my hero. Let's see if she's all she's cracked up to be. Stay tuned for updates.

The person who knows HOW will always have a job. The person who knows WHY will always be his boss.

What a day. Ice and snow on the ground makes for call-in's and pissing matches at work. Oh what a happy day, I love being the boss. :)

On a happier note... more snow and frigid weather is on the way. Ton's of food purchased and we're in hibernation mode here. I have to work tomorrow, but it's only 2 miles away. It should be nice and quite. Time to take down the Christmas decorations and start getting the office set up for the new year.

Starting a new year......

Along with 4 cups of coffee and 6 loads of laundry here's this mornings accomplishments.

Scotch Mule Socks
Yarn: Panda Silk Multi
Source: Spin-off Fall 2009
Needle: 2.5mm Knit Picks

Fiber: Brown alpaca top.

I'm working on getting a suitcase full of old photo's scanned in as well. If I could make up my mind what we were having for supper, I'd be in good shape.

Last night was Oma's chicken and dumplings recipe.

Chicken Broth
1 hen
Salt and Pepper
1 small onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 bay leaf

Dumplings
4 eggs
1/4 cup water
1 tsp. poultry seasoning
Mix in self rising flour until mixture can no longer be stirred.

Boil until meat falls from the bones. Strain through colander and bring broth back to a boil. Add dumplings 1 tsp at a time. After the last dumplings are added, cover and turn off heat. Let set 15 minutes for dumplings to finish cooking.
